A number of years ago, my friend Pat Ford sent me a photo of a strange, prehistoric looking fish that our friend Larry Dahlberg caught while fishing in the Kabalebo River in the country of Suriname. On short notice I was arranging a trip to fish for these river monsters. My adventure took me to the Kabalebo Nature Resort, where I quickly became friends with the owner Mr. Karel Dawson. Over the years, I got to fish in this wonderful and secluded river, deep in the rainforests of this South American Country with my son Martini. This place is so remote that we got to see many wild animals that most people only dream of.
One of the highlights of visiting Suriname was our trip to the market in the capital city of Paramaribo. The aromas of strange spices as well as the sight of many things I never imagined were edible always fascinate me. I feel lucky that my fishing adventures have taken me to so many wonderful places to explore. The following is a photo essay of my adventures in the Kabalebo River and the markets of Suriname.

Hace varios años, mi amigo Pat Ford me envió una foto de un extraño y prehistórico pez que nuestro amigo Larry Dahlberg capturó, mientras pescaba en el río Kabalebo en el país de Suriname. A corto plazo estaba organizando un viaje para pescar a estos monstruos del río. Mi aventura me llevó al Kabalebo Nature Resort, donde rápidamente me hice amigo del dueño Sr. Karel Dawson. A lo largo de los años, pude pescar con mi hijo Martini en este río maravilloso y aislado, en las profundidades de los bosques tropicales de este país sudamericano. Este lugar es tan remoto que llegamos a ver muchos animales salvajes que la mayoría de la gente sólo sueña en ver.
Uno de los puntos destacados a visitar en Surinam fue nuestro viaje al mercado en la ciudad capital de Paramaribo. Los aromas de especias extrañas, así como poder ver muchas cosas que nunca imaginé fuesen comestibles siempre me fascinan. Me siento afortunado de que mis aventuras de pesca me han llevado a explorar tantos lugares maravillosos. Este es un ensayo fotográfico de mis aventuras en el río Kabalebo y los mercados de Suriname que espero les guste y disfruten tanto como yo.
