Over the last few years my son Dr. Martin Arostegui PhD (Martini) and I have done a lot of bottom fishing in waters deeper that 500 feet.
Martini is a strong young man that loves to fish very deep with conventional tackle and pull the fish up mano a mano. I on the other hand am almost 74 years old and rather use an electric reel to pull the big fish from very deep water.
Martini and I have fished in the Bahamas and also in South Florida. Martini has actually caught world record fish while fishing in the deep waters in Bimini and in Hawaii. Since I fish with an electric reel, my fish are not eligible for world records. The rules do not allow electric reels. I use the electric to fish for food fish.
I started using a very old electric reel combo that I bought over 30 years ago and still works but lately I bought a new outfit that is more reliable and has the newest technology.
Many of the fish we catch in deep water are very good to eat. I like tile fish that can be found in South Florida, they are delicious.
Fishing in deep water requires team work between the angler and the captain. You have to compensate for the current in order to keep the line close to the bottom at all times or you won’t get a bite.
When you fish in deep water, you never know what you are bringing up. Sometimes we are completely surprised by a fish we never saw before. This makes this kind of fishing very exciting.

Martini es un joven fuerte al que le encanta pescar muy profundo con aparejos convencionales y tirar del pez mano a mano. Por otro lado, tengo casi 74 años y prefiero usar un carrete eléctrico para sacar al pez grande de aguas muy profundas.
Martini y yo hemos pescado en las Bahamas y también en el sur de Florida. Martini ha capturado peces récord mundiales mientras pescaba en las aguas profundas de Bimini y Hawai. Como pesco con un carrete eléctrico, mis peces no son elegibles para los récords mundiales. Las reglas no permiten carretes eléctricos. Yo uso el eléctrico para capturar paces para comer.
